Another Successful NPT Employability Transition Training Programme Completed

Today we were proud to complete another UK Government–funded NPT Employability Transition Training Programme, supporting two Port Talbot men affected by the recent Tata Steel redundancies — Eliot Jones and Lee Sexton.

Both learners committed themselves fully to an intensive, structured programme designed to help them re‑train, upskill, and gain industry‑recognised certification. Their training pathway included:

Human Factors (Chronic Unease) — strengthening safety‑critical awareness and decision‑making Our Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE)‑approved BS EN 1591‑4:2013 Mechanical Joint Integrity course — building competence in safe, compliant bolted joint practices
ECITB MJI10 and MJI23 — hands‑on mechanical joint integrity training and assessment, using manual torque wrench and battery powered torque equipment applications.

Despite the challenging hot weather, both Eliot and Lee showed real commitment, professionalism, and resilience throughout. Small cohorts like this often produce some of the best training outcomes — the almost one‑to‑one environment allows our trainers to spend more time coaching, demonstrating, and ensuring absolute clarity and understanding at every stage.

We’re delighted to say that both passed with flying colours.

Looking ahead, we hope to welcome them back within the next 12 months to complete their TMJI10 technical tests, progressing further along the ECITB four‑part route to competency. They’ve also expressed interest in our newest Flange Inspection course aligned to ASME PCC‑1 Appendix A — a great next step as they continue building their capability within the process industries.

A huge thank you to Eliot and Lee for their effort and attitude, and as always, sincere thanks to the team at NPT Employability in Port Talbot for their continued support. This programme was a reminder that even the smallest cohorts can deliver the biggest impact.

If you have also been affected by the changes at Tata Steel Port Talbot or if you know someone who may benefit from this fully funded programme, please encourage them to reach out.
