There’s been an elephant in the room for quite some time. It’s still there. And will continue to be there until we start addressing it.
But what is it?
It’s the first UK nuclear power station to be built in a generation. And we should address it sooner rather than later.
Because this incredible, groundbreaking long term project will be acting as a giant magnet for our UK workforce. Only the most competent and skilled workers will be part of this long term project. The onboarding will be stringent. Only the best will be accepted, leaving the incompetent behind.
And they will be left to travel the length and breadth of the UK – to every oil refinery, chemical and petrochemical plant, power station; every COMAH registered asset.
If industry is worried now about the mechanical skill shortage then the pain is soon going to get worse.
You know how passionate I am about our ‘state of the nation’ in terms of mechanical joint integrity competence. What I want to know is; what is industry doing? What are YOU doing to ensure only competent and qualified personnel work on your site, your project, your turnaround.
The clock is ticking…
