In recent times, the echoes of redundancy have resonated across the steel town of Port Talbot, particularly affecting dedicated workers like Scott Davies.
Having served an apprenticeship with the Royal Navy, Scott, a mechanical maintenance fitter in the energy department at Tata Steel, found himself amid an unexpected career transition recently.
While redundancy is never easy, Scott embraced the opportunity to redefine his path with determination and optimism. He signed up for the NPT Employability training support package, a UK government-funded initiative designed to support individuals in their journey toward new career prospects.
Scott’s goal was clear: to attend and successfully pass our Mechanical Joint Integrity training program, and gain crucial qualifications for UK (COMAH) process industries.
Scott’s story is one of dedication and perseverance. During a dedicated programme of one-to-one training delivery, Scott diligently worked toward his goal. His efforts paid off when he successfully passed our programme, earning various industry-approved and required qualifications and certification to prove his competency, such as ECITB MJI10 and BS EN 1591-4:2013 as well undertaking our newest Human Performance/Human Error modules.
But the story doesn’t end there. In a turn of events that truly embodies the spirit of resilience, Scott has secured employment with one of the UK’s leading engineering services companies – they insisted that he needs the relevant certification to prove competency and be part of their team (great to see!).
His new role will take him to one of the UK’s oil refineries, where he will apply his skills and expertise. Moreover, Scott’s journey continues as he then transitions to work on the UK’s largest nuclear construction project, a testament to his unwavering commitment and the bright future that lies ahead.
Scott Davies’ journey from redundancy to resurgence is a heart-warming reminder that with the right support, determination, and a willingness to embrace change, new opportunities can emerge even in the face of adversity.
His story serves as an inspiration to many, showcasing the power of resilience and the potential for growth in every challenge life presents.
On securing new employment Scott said: “Getting the job with one of the UK’s leading engineering services companies felt like a complete fresh start. I’m excited to bring my skills to new projects and continue growing in my career. I’m ready for it!”
We’ll see Scott again at the end of the year where he will undergo his ECITB TMJI10 test at our training centre – but until then wish him all the very best.
