Hand up!!

Anyone else out there suffering from Chronic Unease?

If you are, then that’s a GOOD thing. I’ve been suffering for years..

Chronic unease is a powerful concept in process safety, especially in COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards) registered industries. It refers to a state of continuous vigilance and skepticism about the effectiveness of safety measures. Here’s why it’s beneficial:

✅Prevents Complacency
Chronic unease keeps us from becoming complacent. It ensures that we don’t become too comfortable with the status quo and always look for potential risks.

✅ Encourages Proactive Behaviour
It fosters a proactive approach to safety, where teams are always on the lookout for weak signals or minor anomalies that could indicate bigger problems.

✅ Promotes Open Communication
When leaders and teams maintain a sense of unease, they are more likely to encourage open communication and listen to concerns from all levels of the organisation.

✅ Enhances Risk Management
It helps in better risk management by constantly questioning and evaluating existing safety measures and procedures.

✅ Builds a Safety Culture
Chronic unease contributes to building a positive and strong safety culture where everyone is aware of the potential risks and committed to maintaining high safety standards.

In terms of mechanical joint integrity, this is something that I am all too familiar with; systems that are flawed or often overlooked and not adhered to, competency concerns and procedural non compliance.

Soon Zulu Joint Integrity & Training Ltd will be offering an introductory level training course on this subject. The course will be specific to our UK process industries and is the perfect introduction for all personnel; from apprentices and mechanical operatives through to process operators, engineers and managers.
Learners will understand that Chronic Unease keeps the focus on continuous improvement and vigilance, which is crucial for preventing major accidents and ensuring the safety of our workforce and the environment.
