It’s National Apprenticeship Week! hashtag#NAW2026

Today I’m reflecting on the apprentice training and support we’ve been proud to deliver for one of our long‑standing clients in South Wales: Tata Steel UK.

For the past ten years, we’ve provided industry‑approved mechanical joint integrity training to both mechanical craft apprentices and higher apprentices at Tata Steel, South Wales and it’s a privilege for us to help develop the next generation of skilled engineers.

Looking ahead to this year and beyond, we’re excited to launch our new ‘Flexible Apprentice Training Programme’, available to all mechanical engineering apprentices across all process‑industry sectors. Designed to dovetail with academic studies and site‑based learning, the programme includes:

✅ Human Factors – Chronic Unease
Advanced development in situational awareness, recognising complacency, and proactively managing risk in high‑hazard environments.

✅ ECITB HuP01 – Human Performance
Essential training focused on understanding human factors, reducing workplace errors, and strengthening safe decision‑making.

✅ ECITB MJI Units (MJI10, MJI18, MJI19, MJI23)
Core modules covering the safe assembly, disassembly, and tightening of bolted joints using manual, battery‑powered, and hydraulic torque tooling.

✅ ECITB TMJI Technical Tests
Comprehensive theory and practical assessments designed to validate mechanical joint integrity competency to industry standards.

✅ BS EN 1591‑4:2013
Training and qualification for personnel involved in the assembly of bolted joints in pressure systems. This course is formally approved by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE)

By engaging with this programme, apprentices significantly enhance their mechanical competence, safety awareness, and ability to perform critical tasks with confidence and precision.

For employers, this translates into;

🟩 Reduced operational risk
🟩 Improved asset integrity
🟩 Stronger compliance with industry standards
🟩 A more capable and resilient future workforce

This is more than training — it’s an investment in the future of UK engineering skills.

UK industry thrives when we invest in engineering apprentices — and we’re fully committed to supporting and driving that investment forward.
